Welcome
Cherie Varisco
Dear Ellender Families,
Welcome to the new school year at Allen Ellender Elementary School. We are pleased to have you with us. Our goal at Ellender is to provide an exemplary education for all of our students in a kind, safe environment. We believe every child can achieve academic success. To this end, every child will be provided with quality instructional experiences that recognize, support and maintain high expectations for all students.
As we work together throughout the year, I encourage you to stay in contact with your child’s teacher. Through teamwork, open communication and a dedication to continuous improvement, Allen Ellender will continue to be a school where each child is challenged, nurtured and provided with a safe and stimulating learning experience. We believe that the first step for students to excel at school begins with respect for themselves and others, and pride in their school. It is my pleasure to serve this
community and be part of a team that is committed to excellence!
I hope you have had a wonderful summer break spending time adventuring and relaxing with loved ones! I would love to tell you a little about myself. I started my teaching career at Johnson Gretna Park School, in 1992, where I taught most grades 3 rd to 6 th and PE. After eleven years teaching, I started my administrative career. I spent time at Gretna Middle, West Jefferson High School, and Allen Ellender as a Dean of students
and an Assistant Principal at West Jefferson High Schol and Allen Ellender. I also had the pleasure of being the Principal at Terrytown Elementary after Hurricane Katrina for six years. I’ve been the Principal at Allen Ellender Elementary for the past seven years and can say that a Pre-K to 8 th grade elementary is such a challenge but rewarding to see to see our students grow from a Pre-K student to high school students.
My educational background includes an undergraduate and master’s degree from Our Lady of Holy Cross College. I am certified in elementary education and special education. My experiences have given me a passion for collaborating with all learners, building upon their strengths, and bringing about the goodness that already exists in us all. I look forward to supporting and sustaining the wonderful programs and practices at
Allen Ellender Elementary.
I am thankful for the teachers and staff at our school who work with me to help make Allen Ellender a special place. Thank you for entrusting us with your child. It is an honor to serve you! Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cherie Soileau-Varisco, Principal
